Overview
Nico Freitas is a Barcelona-based design studio founded by Brazilian architect Nico Freitas. The practice operates at the intersection of architecture, material, and light, focusing on the creation of architectural wooden lamps.
The studio’s first two works, ICOS and SPIN, received Honorable Mentions at the LIT Design Awards 2025.
About the Studio
Founded in Barcelona, the studio applies architectural thinking at the scale of the object.
Each lamp is conceived as a study in geometry, structure, and illumination. All pieces are designed and handcrafted by Nico Freitas, from the first sketch to the final fabrication.
The studio operates through an intentionally small-scale production model, with individually numbered and digitally authenticated works.
Founder
Nico Freitas (São Paulo, 1981) is a Brazilian architect based in Barcelona.
After more than fifteen years working in architecture in Brazil and Spain, he began exploring wood as a primary material in 2024, translating architectural principles into lighting objects.
His work investigates how light shapes space through geometry and material integrity.

In early 2026, Nico Freitas launches his first lighting collections, marking the transition from architectural practice to an independent, self-produced design studio.
The debut works, ICOS and SPIN, explore the relationship between structure and illumination through carefully constructed wooden geometries.
Both pieces received Honorable Mentions at the LIT Design Awards 2025.
ICOS
ICOS is a sculptural lighting object crafted from solid wood and produced in limited editions.
Each release explores the character of a specific wood species, allowing material and light to define the object’s presence.
SPIN
SPIN is a wooden table lamp conceived as part of the studio’s ongoing collection.
The piece reinterprets the silhouette of a traditional table lamp through a contemporary structural system.
Light is diffused through a controlled double reflection created by a sequence of thin laser-cut plywood planes rotating around a central axis.
Awards
ICOS and SPIN received Honorable Mentions in the Decorative Accent Lamp category at the LIT Design Awards 2025.
